THE CLONING
PRODUCE GENETICALLY IDENTICAL CANNABIS PLANTS
By taking cuttings from a "mother" plant, this process ensures that the new plants inherit all the traits of the mother plant, such as potency, flavor, and growth characteristics.
Discovery Odyssey: Episode 2 - Cloning: Step-by-step
Several factors contribute to the success of cannabis cloning.
Maintaining the proper environment is crucial for the successful rooting of cannabis cuttings. The cuttings are placed in a cloning dome or humidity tent to sustain high humidity levels, around 70-80%, and a stable temperature between 20-25°C (68-77°F). This controlled environment helps prevent dehydration and promotes root growth.
For the first few days, we provide low-intensity, indirect light to avoid stressing the cuttings. Gradually, we increase to 18-24 hours of light per day using LED grow lights. We regularly monitor the cuttings for signs of root development, pests, or diseases, keeping the growing medium moist but not waterlogged. Once the cuttings develop a healthy root system, typically within 1-3 weeks, they are ready for transplanting into larger containers or directly into the growing environment.
During this process, we gradually acclimate the clones to their new surroundings by reducing humidity levels and increasing light intensity over several days to prevent transplant shock and promote healthy growth.
